FAQ

  • What can I expect during the first session?

The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, your goals, and any questions or concerns you have. I’ll also gather some background information to better understand your experiences and needs. It’s important to me that you feel safe, supported, and understood from the beginning.

  • Do you accept my insurance?

I am currently in-network with Cigna and Aetna. If you have a different insurance provider, I am considered an out-of-network provider.

For out-of-network clients, I’m happy to provide a monthly superbill—a detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement, depending on your plan. I recommend contacting your insurance provider in advance to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits.

  • How often will we meet?

Most clients begin with weekly sessions, which helps build momentum and connection. As therapy progresses, we may decide to meet less frequently depending on your goals and needs.

  • Do you offer Telehealth sessions?

Yes. I offer secure, HIPAA-compliant video therapy for clients located anywhere in California. Many clients appreciate the flexibility and convenience of telehealth while still receiving the same quality of care.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice. Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice are subject to the full session fee. I understand that life happens, and I do my best to be flexible when possible.

  • Is therapy confidential?

Yes. Everything we discuss in therapy is kept confidential, with a few legal exceptions (such as if someone is at risk of harm to themselves or others, or in cases of abuse). We’ll review this fully in our first session so you know what to expect.

  • Can I use my HSA or FSA card for therapy sessions?

Yes, in most cases therapy is an eligible expense under Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA). I recommend checking with your plan provider to confirm your coverage.

  • How long does therapy last?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Some people come for a few months to work through a specific issue; others choose to stay longer for ongoing support and deeper growth. We’ll check in regularly to make sure therapy is aligned with your goals.

  • Is therapy different from talking to AI?

Yes — therapy is very different from talking to AI, even though both can offer helpful information and reflection. Therapy is a real human relationship built on trust, empathy, and attunement. A therapist brings not only training and clinical expertise, but also emotional presence — the ability to notice what's not said, respond to your unique history, and hold space for the complexity of your experience.

While AI can offer support in certain ways, it doesn’t replace the healing power of feeling seen, understood, and accepted by another person. Therapy is a collaborative, emotionally responsive process designed to foster deep, meaningful change — not just generate answers, but build insight, safety, and transformation over time.
